What do we do?

We work for orphans and needy people in Africa because we want to help combat the increasing poverty and desperation of children and families. We are mainly active in Guinea, West Africa but we have also been running a small pilot project in Uganda since 2010.

A.I.M.E! stands for an appeal for love and charity in the Christian sense.

Our commitment is built on respect, compassion and concern for our fellow man.

Our dedication is reflected in our "holistic approach", which focuses on three key areas:

1. Integrating AIDS orphans into local foster families

2. Income-generating activities

3. Running a small clinic

1. A.I.M.E! The programme "Integrating AIDS orphans into foster families" provides support to more than 1,732 people in Guinea, including 1,255 children and 477 adults in 251 families in the capital Conakry and in the mining areas of Fria and Kamsar. It offers support in the following areas:  food, education, health and psychosocial care.

Our extensive experience in working with families has shown that it is only possible to provide sustainable help to children and adults if they receive support in all of the above areas over a period of 1-3 years.

2. This support can be followed by the possibility of participating in our project "Income-generating activities". This strategy enables us to gradually remove families that become stable and who have gained financial independence from our support; thus allowing us to take on new families in need.

3. The establishment and operation of a small medical care facility rounds-off our holistic approach. The goal of A.I.M.E! in this respect, is to provide continuous basic medical care for the people in its programme and the population at large based on the principles of social justice.

This means providing free or at least affordable treatment.

A.I.M.E! in Uganda

Since2010 the A.I.M.E! concept of supporting orphans by placing them with foster families has been extended to Uganda. As a first step, we are providing help to around 210 people, 150 of whom  are children, in 30 families in the Amuru district in Northern Uganda, the area worst affected by civil war and AIDS.

Here A.I.M.E! is cooperating with Kairos, a local Christian NGO.
